Hanna Ruso CD,DONA-As a professional Birth Becomes you photographer and DONA certified birth doula, I have bore witness to around 250 births over the span of twelve years. The families that I have supported are intuitive and capable, yet eager to know and learn as much as possible about pregnancy, birth, and their rights in the birth space. As a compassionate labor companion, it has been an honor to walk with these families on their path to parenthood and help them to realize these qualities within themselves.

I have had the pleasure of working with some of the best care providers in Michigan, including Celeste Groenenberg, CPM, LM of Gentle Mama Holistic Midwifery and the midwives at University of Michigan Medical Center. I have experience supporting hospital birth, homebirth, birth centers, and freebirth (unassisted birth). I am trained in the skill and history of the Rebozo for labor and birth, and trained with Spinning Babies in September 2022.

In addition to birth photography and doula support, I am a trained Lamaze Childbirth Educator. I offer placenta encapsulation, postpartum support, and belly henna, as well as maternity, newborn, lifestyle, and family photography.

When not doing birth related things, I spend my life driving 3 boys around for travel soccer, with my 4 year old as the best sidekick. Yes i have 4 amazing little boys!! I try to volunteer at their school as much as I can. I love to cook all different types of food and bake cakes for no reason. One of the best ways to get my kids to stop fighting is I drag them into the car and make them go hiking with me at the Dahlem Center here in Jackson. Something about nature and trying to catch frogs that just calms and grounds us all. I have three adorable puppies, who are more of a handful then my toddlers ever were. I have been married to my college sweetheart for almost 15 years. I give LEO & Military discounts just ask. I am very proud of all my crunchy-hippie mama ways. I love to eat healthy, and am working on the exercise part. I help lead a MOPS group here in Jackson, because no women should mom alone!

Each birth is a new experience a new adventure for a family to embark on. In birth is where learning happens, and families are born and grow.

That trusting your gut and mothing instincts is often ignored in today’s world. Women however carry in her an innate instinct that she can grow in, provided the right circumstances! Hanna and Alexis love to support their clients with evidence-based material so that they can make the right choices for their families. We strongly encourage bodily autonomy for moms & babies. We help to guide you emotionally, physically and educationally before during and after labor. We coach partners in providing the best support for their partners, all while still being able to just be in the moment and enjoy the experience and be supported themselves.

We believe how you are treated during your labor and the choices you make will affect your journey into motherhood, so starting off with the best possibly birth is best for all families.

How it works

We do free consultations/interviews and serves up to an hour from Jackson and Lansing Michigan for birth doula and/or birth photography clients.

Once hired you sign a contract and pay a $500 deposit to hold a spot on our calendar.

The balance is due by 37 weeks.

We do 1-2 prental apts with you, support you during the birth, and do a post partum visit!
